RICHMOND HOUSE VETS, MIRFIELD

MAS Design Consultants Ltd. were appointed to deliver the conversion of three vacant commercial units at 962 Huddersfield Road into a purpose-designed veterinary practice for Richmond House Vets. The project involved bringing together the separate units to create a cohesive, modern veterinary facility tailored around the requirements of a busy clinical practice.

The design carefully considered the different functions required within a contemporary veterinary environment, from client-facing spaces and consultation rooms through to specialist clinical, diagnostic and animal care facilities.

DESIGN & VETERINARY FACILITIES

The completed layout provides a comprehensive range of veterinary facilities, including three consultation rooms, separate cat and dog waiting areas, reception, dispensary, laboratory, X-ray, dental facilities and a dedicated theatre.

Animal welfare and clinical operation were central to the design, with dedicated cat and dog wards, isolation facilities, recovery areas, a morgue and walk-in freezer, alongside supporting laundry, storage and staff facilities. The practice also incorporates specialist equipment and hydraulic treatment tables to support the day-to-day operation of the veterinary team.

TECHNICAL FIT-OUT

The conversion required careful coordination of the existing commercial units and their incoming services. Existing power, water and drainage infrastructure was retained and adapted to serve the new practice, while redundant services were removed or capped as part of the works.

Particular attention was also given to privacy and the separation of clinical areas, with specialist opaque and obscure glazing treatments used to prevent views into spaces such as the preparation, laboratory and plant areas.

THE RESULT

The project successfully transformed three vacant Class E commercial units into a fully functioning veterinary practice, creating a modern and efficient environment for both veterinary staff and their clients.
