SCARCROFT CIRCKET CLUB

MAS Design Consultants Ltd. developed a concept for a new multi-purpose sports and community facility at Scarcroft Cricket Club, Leeds. The proposal explores how the existing club could be expanded to provide a wider range of sporting, social and community facilities within a purpose-designed development.

The concept brings together a new sports hall, badminton facilities, changing accommodation, hospitality and flexible event spaces, creating a versatile facility capable of supporting both sporting activities and wider community use.

DESIGN APPROACH

The proposed sports hall incorporates three dedicated badminton courts, with carefully considered spacing, playing clearances and a 7.5m playing height. Dedicated changing facilities, showers and equipment storage are positioned alongside the courts to provide a practical and efficient sporting environment.

The architectural approach combines contemporary sports facilities with materials that reflect the local character. Natural stonework is proposed at lower levels, transitioning to timber cladding at higher levels to soften the appearance of the building. Large areas of glazing provide natural light and visual connections with the existing cricket pitch.

COMMUNITY & HOSPITALITY

The proposal extends beyond sporting use, incorporating a bar, main venue space and additional flexible event area. The spaces can be adapted for private functions, community events and larger gatherings, with a dedicated kitchen providing direct access to the venue.

A first-floor viewing gallery overlooks the badminton courts, while dedicated office and meeting spaces provide accommodation for the club's administrative requirements.

THE RESULT

The concept provides a vision for a modern, multi-use sports and community destination, expanding the role of Scarcroft Cricket Club beyond traditional cricket use. By combining sport, hospitality, events and community facilities within one cohesive development, the proposal creates a flexible facility designed to serve both the club and the wider community.
